The 28 mansions of the Moon

Arabic astrologers cut the sky into 28 mansions, one for each day of the Moon’s course. Enter your date of birth to find the mansion your Moon was in.

The mansions come from Indian and Arabic astronomy and reached Europe through the Picatrix. Agrippa lists them in De occulta philosophia (1533), with what each one is good for: they were used to choose the day of an undertaking, not to read a character. Reading the mansion of a birth, as this page does, is our own application of his list.

The mansions are counted from the head of Aries “of the eighth sphere”, the sphere of the fixed stars: we use the sidereal zodiac. Each is 12°51′26″ wide.
